The Welcome Village
The 2009 Etape du Tour starts in Montelimar. Contestants will need to register in the Welcome Village in Montelimar, which is situated in the Quartier Saint Martin, just North of the historic town centre. This will be open on Saturday afternoon from 14:00 onwards, and Sunday from 9 am until 21:00.
There will be stands organised by leading cycle companies with their latest models.
The starting pens are further south (see the map). Each pen (SAS) will contain from 600 to 2000 cyclists, according to their Dossard number. On the map the pens are colour coded, to help you locate your pen. On the day, marshals will direct you to the correct pen.
The map also shows suggested drop off points, where you might be left by your driver (Depose Coureurs) for people arriving from the East (Est) North (Nord) or West (Oust).
As Iím sure you know, the finish of the Etape is at the Summit of Mount Ventoux. The Arrival Village will welcome you with the usual facilities a few km down the mountain at Mont Serein Ski village. There will not be any access for vehicle at the summit, but only at Mont Serien. Parking here will be limited, so if you are planning to be met after the Etape, the best place might be in Malaucene at the foot of Mount Ventoux.
